ST. GEORGE'S MONASTRY OF TABAKINI
west Georgia, in the beautiful gorge of high Imereti, 7-8 kilometers from Zestaphony, there is St. George's monastery of monks. It belongs to the VII-VIII centuries and mural painting XVI century.
Last centuries more than 70 monks lived there and monastery played a great part in the history of Georgia. In XIX century St. Ilarion Kartveli, the rector of the King Solomon II, spent his childhood there. Then he moved to Atheny Mountain.
During Communist-Atheist period it was isolated.
Thanks to God, at the end of XX century the Monastery in Tabakini was restored. In 2000 a new church was built through the hard work and prays of the monks. New book-matends are prepared to be published, but because of financial problems it is impossible to do.
Hard economical and social situation of the country makes the monastery life heavier and harder. It exists only on charity.
Please, make finansial help to regenerate the Monastry.
God bless you!
